Spring Festival
Nowrooz is the New Year festival of many countries across Central Asia and the Middle East. In 2021, we celebrate the year 1400 of the Persian calendar. In order to celebrate this new century and contrast with the sanitary crisis which has been hindering our social life for a year, we wish to inaugurate a new festival.

Spring Celebration
Nowrooz – which means ‘new daylight’ in Persian – marks the New Year and the beginning of Spring across Central Asia, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Turkey. The joyful awakening of nature after the Winter months is widely celebrated by paying respect to family, friends, and neighbours, visiting one another, and spending time outdoors.
Nowrooz is a festival of joy, revival, creation, love and togetherness.
We wish to make this Nowrooz edition the starting point of a new dialogue between cultures

PROGRAMMATION
PROGRAM
CONCERTS
Highlight : Two live performances by renown international artists (45 minutes) and 10 concerts (20 minutes) showcasing artists and musical varieties from all the lands where Nowrooz is celebrated.
MEETINGS
A series of informal talks between two guests around a subject of their choice. The exchange is intended to be interdisciplinary and international, in order to nourish reflection and lead to an original dialogue.
LECTURES
This lecture series is composed of short lectures by academics on various subjects
READINGS
Various authors will be invited to read and comment upon a text or poem of their choice (from their own pen or from another author).
CONTEMPORARY ART
Cycle of cartes blanches given to artists to present contemporary works that they have designed or that inspire them (photography, painting, ceramics, graphic design, dance, illustration, sculpture, etc.).
ARTS & TRADITIONS
Cycle of cartes blanches given to Art Historians to choose and talk about a remarkable artwork that they believe is related to the values and spirit of Nowrooz. The aim is not to deliver a scientific discourse on the object, but rather to tell its story and deliver a personal feeling and interpretation of its use, its aesthetics and its symbolic value.
CINEMA
Cycle of cartes blanches given to filmmakers, actors and actresses to recall and tell about a movie scene of their choice.
ARCHITECTURE& URBANISM
Cycle of cartes blanches given to architects, landscape and urban designers of all nationalities to present inspiring buildings, gardens or cityscapes from the lands where Nowrooz is celebrated.
GASTRONOMY
Introductory cycle to the gastronomy and culinary traditions of the lands of Nowrooz. Highlighting both the gastronomic unity and diversity of this vast cultural area, telling about some recipes and their history.
THE STRUCTURE
Gondishapour
Gondishapour is a young non-profit, apolitical, non-religious and non-communitarian French association. We aim at promoting scientific, cultural, and artistic exchanges between France and Iran. We have already organised intercultural events such as the Isfahan week in Paris in 2018. Inspired by the illustrious example of the ancient academy from which we borrowed the name, Gondishapour wishes to become a platform for exchange and interaction on multiple fields and disciplines related to culture and humanities.
